Pentagon's Carter Eyes Closer Industry Ties -- Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon's new top weapons buyer said he wants a collaborative relationship with the defense industry, even as Defense Secretary Robert Gates is proposing major cutbacks to weapons programs and President Barack Obama has criticized the industry's profits.

"In our country we buy our military equipment from private industry, so they're our partners in equipping our forces," said Ashton Carter in his first interview with reporters since starting work on Monday as the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics. "I would like to have a relationship of candor and dialogue...we're in this together."

The Defense Department spends more than $300 billion annually on everything from computers to security guards to jet fighters.

My Comment: With an annual budget of $300 billion dollars to be spent on military contractors .... I can only imagine the PR and dining that is going on.
