Shortage Of Equipment Faulted For Deaths Of British Soldiers

Afghanistan: Soldiers Killed By Friendly Fire Due To Equipment Shortage -- The Telegraph

Three British soldiers were killed by friendly fire after the radio operator who called in an American air strike was not supplied with the kit he needed, a coroner said.

British forward air controllers in Afghanistan had to borrow equipment off American colleagues in order to hear radio orders above the noise of gunfire, the inquest heard.

Privates Aaron McClure, 19, Robert Foster, 19, and John Thrumble, 21, all of 1st Bn The Royal Anglian Regiment, were killed by a 500lb bomb in August 2007 after the soldier who called in the bombing misheard co-ordinates.
