After China, Is India The Next Emerging Power?


Report: India Conflicted About Global Role -- Wall Street Journal

India aspires for a larger international role, but is stymied in its quest partly because of its sense of itself as a developing country, and the pressure it faces to deal with domestic challenges first, says a new report on India’s changing global role from a British international affairs think-tank.

“Most Indian policy-makers still focus primarily on the urgent domestic challenges their country faces rather than on its aspirations to a greater global role,” said Chatham House analyst Gareth Price, in the report, published this month.

The report noted that India has been taking on an increasing role in aid and development.

My Comment:
India reminds me of what China was when I lived in that country in the 1980s. Poor and insecure, but eager to grow its economy and improve everyday life for its citizens. Will India follow the same path .... I will predict that it will, even with all of its internal problems and conflicts.
