My Comment: The U.S. has no one to blame but themselves for positioning themselves to be vulnerable to oil security threats. The U.S. by itself possesses enormous oil and energy deposits, but when Congress prohibits and/or limits oil exploration and drilling on its own lands .... there are going to be consequences.

I can also understand the allure and hope that alternative energies and technologies may have in helping us drift away from oil and petroleum based products. But this is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. Our needs and the world's needs are going to grow, and as long as our energy needs are dependent on unstable regimes, our vulnerability to oil shocks and the instability that it produces will continue to be a part of our national security environment and focus.
