Four NATO service members who died in a plane crash in southern Afghanistan yesterday were American, U.S. military officials have confirmed.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, but the International Security Assistance Force said that initial reports indicated there was no enemy activity in the area at the time.

Instead, the province's police chief told Reuters that the plane came down in Zabul province in the district of Shahjoi due to bad weather.

It has not been confirmed whether the victims, all working for the NATO-led ISAF, were military staff or civilians and the four have not been identified. It is also unclear what kind of airplane was involved.
