Is Iran's Oil Company An Agent Of It's Military?

US Determines Iranian Oil Company Is Agent Of The Military -- Wall Street Journal

The U.S. Treasury Department said Monday it told Congress that Iran’s state oil company is linked to the country’s military.

The decision, which was required within 45 days under legislation signed into law last month by President Barack Obama, potentially exposes foreigners and foreign financial firms doing business with it to sanctions that could block them from the U.S. banking system.

The National Iranian Oil Co., or NIOC, was already subject to U.S. sanctions for being part of the Iranian government, but that only gave the U.S. the power to slap sanctions on Americans or U.S. companies doing business with it. NIOC is owned by the Iranian government through the oil ministry.
