Bush White House Didn't Listen To 9/11 Warnings

NY Times Reporter: Bush White House Didn't Listen To 9/11 Warnings -- CBS

(CBS News) Eleven years after the 9/11 attacks, there is new information on what the George W. Bush administration knew about al-Qaeda's plans.

We learned after 9/11 that a presidential briefing paper in August 2001 was headlined "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S."

But Tuesday in the New York Times, investigative reporter Kurt Eichenwald says the White House received ominous warnings as early as May 2001.

My Comment: To say that 9/11 was a massive intelligence and political failure is an understatement .... more so because everyone knew after the first failed attack on the Twin Towers that Al Qaeda was planning more attacks. I remember very clearly in the years after the first attack on reading reports that Islamic extremists were gunning for another attack ... it was just a question of when.

But what has always annoyed me about many of the reports that have been made since 9/11 .... and this recent New York Times report from Kurt Eichenwald is an example ..... is that there is an eagerness to report extensively on the months before 9/11 on the Bush administrations denial and inaction against Al Qaeda, but conveniently and totally ignoring the lack of action and response within the Clinton administration in the YEARS prior to 9/11.

9/11 was a massive political, military, and intelligence failure on every level. To focus on one group's mistakes and incompetence while ignoring others and their mistakes is a guarantee that we will only end up repeating history .... and spreading the same excuses and justifications after the next attack .... which by the way Al Qaeda and it's offshoots are clearly indicating that they will attempt again .... and I did not have to attend an intelligence briefing to come to that realization.
