Get Ready For More U.S. Defense Budget Cuts

Leon Panetta Choice Signals Defense Cuts -- Politico

By choosing Leon Panetta as his next secretary of defense, President Barack Obama has signaled that he’s serious about cutting the Pentagon budget — even if that just happens to make life more difficult for the GOP.

Obama’s plan to cut hundreds of billions of dollars worth of defense and security spending has exposed a growing chasm in the Republican Party — a split between security hawks who want to protect the Pentagon budget and deficit hawks who say that everyone has to share the pain.

My Comment: President Obama made it very clear last week that he wanted $400 billion cut out of the U.S. Defense Budget. But unlike Gates who understood the military consequences of such an action and who would have been reluctant to proceed, Leon Panetta has no reservations and is the man who will make this happen.
