C295 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) System

Airbus Military has started flight-testing the modified C295  Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system with winglets to enhance the performance during take-off, climb and cruise phases of flight by increasing the lift-drag ratio.

C295 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system AEW&C has been jointly developed by the  Airbus Military and IAI/Elta Systems by using Elta's AESA radar to provide high quality 360 degree surveillance.

Chinese Z-8 Super Frelon Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Helicopter

Turkish Boeing 737 AEW&C Peace Eagle Aircraft

Turkish Boeing 737 AEW&C Peace Eagle Aircraft has an Operational ceiling of 41,000 feet with flight range that exceeds 3,500 nautical miles. It is equipped with L-band, Northrop Grumman's Multi-role Electronically Scanned Array (MESA) antenna which is integrated Identification Friend-or-Foe capabilities.

Mi-17 Helicopter Ground Surveillance Radar System




The Mi-17 helicopter of the  People's Liberation Army (PLA) equipped with a long-range, multi-mode retractable rotating radar. which will allow the PLA an eye in the sky.

Although the exact nature of this new system is unknown, this new helicopter based radar is most likely to be used for scanning the ground targets which will then be transmitted to a ground station.

Joint Patrolling By B-737 Peace Eagle AEW&C & F-15K Slam Eagle Fighters

The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) operates two Boeing 737 Peace Eye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft and 52  F-15K Slam Eagle fighter jets. 
Additional  two Boeing 737 Peace Eye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft and 8 F-15K Slam Eagle fighter jets will be delivered to the ROKAF by the United States by the end of this year.
United States has offered to sell Boeing F-15SE Silent Eagle with reduce radar cross-section (RCS) and conformal weapons bays (CWB) to the ROKAF for third phase of the F-X fighter program.
Boeing 737 AEW&C is equipped with the Multi-role Electronically Scanned Array (MESA) radar which has the capability to track over 3,000 targets from a distance of over 400 kilometers.

The F-15K Slam Eagle has an operational radius of around 1,800 kilometers and it can carry a combination of upto eight AIM-9X Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM air to air missiles for air defense role. It can carry a maximum payload of 10,400 kg.

Republic of Korea Air Force Receives Second Peace Eye Boeing 737 AEW&C

The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) has received its 2nd Peace Eye Boeing 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft from the United States ahead of schedule. Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has modified the 2nd Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 commercial aircraft into the AEW&C configuration for ROKAF.

Pakistani Saab-2000 Erieye AEW&C at Dubai Air Show 2011


The Saab-2000 Erieye AEW&C (airborne early warning and control aircraft) of the Pakistan Air Force at the Dubai Air Show 2011. PAF has purchased four fully functional Saab-2000 Erieye AEW&C aircraft and one training aircraft. Pakistan Air Force received its first Erieye in October 2009. All the Erieye systems along with ground stations were delivered by the end of 2010.

India To Increase Order of Israeli Phalcon AWACS To Five


Indian Air Force will purchase two additional Israeli Phalcon is an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) to argument its earlier order of three such aircrafts. Indian Defense Ministry is in process of drafting the  contract for the additional Phalcon AEW&C at cost of around $800 million.

French Navy's E-2C Hawkeye 2000 on Charles de Gaulle (R91) Aircraft Carrier

The E-2C Hawkeye 2000 airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft is capable of taking off and landing from an aircraft carrier. Its AN/APS-145 radar can track over 2,000 targets at upto ranges of 550km and control the interception of 40 hostile targets.

France has also requested the United States for an upgrade of of the four E-2C Hawkeye 2000 AEW&C with Mode 5/S Identification Friend or Foe (IFF). 
French Naval Aviation (Aeronavale) operates three E-2C Hawkeyes airborne early warning (AEW) aircrafts which makes it the only operator of the E-2 Hawkeye from an aircraft carrier besides the United States Navy. Hawkeyes 2000 can stay in air for over 4 hours while they are up to 200 miles from the aircraft carrier.

French Naval Aviation (Aeronavale) operates its E-2C Hawkeye 2000 airborne early warning (AEW) aircrafts from the French aircraft carrier, Charles De Gaulle. All the French E-2C Hawkeye have been upgraded with  Hamilton Sundstrand NP2000 digitally controlled, 8 blade propellers as part of the NP2000 program.

Aerostat Radar of Indian Air Force is Unserviceable

One of the two Aerostat radars became unserviceable due to sloppy maintenance which resulted in an accident in May 2009. Indian Comptroller and Auditor General have informed the Indian Parliament that this has resulted in los of to Rs 302 crore.
