Battle For Qusair Enters Third Week, Civilians Remain Trapped -- Daily Star
BEIRUT: The battle for Qusair entered its third week Monday, as wounded civilians remain trapped in the besieged town, the regime having vowed not to let the Red Cross enter until fighting is over.
The regime, backed by Hezbollah, is trying to win back the border town from the rebels, as it both provides a vital lifeline for the opposition to secure weapons and supplies, and secures a link between Damascus and the coastal Alawite heartland.
The army began shelling the town again early Monday morning, according to activists.
A doctor, based in Qusair, told the Daily Star Monday that he had seen some 1,000 people, mostly civilians at a field hospital. He said most of the injuries appeared to be the result of shelling or sniper fire.
