Libya`s Rebels Have Now Reached Gaddafi`s Home Town Of Sirte


Libya: Rebels Claim To Have Captured Gaddafi's Home Town Sirte -- the Telegraph

Libyan rebels have claimed to have taken control of the town of Sirte, Muammar Gaddafi's home town.

"It's confirmed Sirte has fallen into pro-democracy hands," said the rebel spokesman, Shamsiddin Abdulmolah, although no independent verification of the claim was available.

He said the rebels had not faced much resistance from pro-Gaddafi forces.

Celebratory gunfire erupted and car horns sounded in the eastern rebel stronghold of Benghazi as news of the rebel statement about Sirte spread.

My Comment: Other reports are contradicting this claim, with NATO reports probably being the most accurate. But the fact that the rebels are now at Sirte tells me that Gaddafi`s forces have completely collapsed in eastern Libya, and they will now make their final stand at places like Sirte and Tripoli.
