Taiwan Arrests Suspected Military Spies For China -- BBC

Taiwan has arrested three retired military officers suspected of spying for China, officials say.

One of the officers, identified by local media as Chang Chih-hsin, was the former political warfare head of the meteorology and oceanography office.

The Defence Ministry has said that Mr Chang did not leak sensitive material.

But local media warn his department handled highly classified data, including maps for submarines, hidden ambush zones and coastal defence areas.

Taiwan Orders Latest US AN/SSQ-53F Sonobuoys To Hunt Chinese Subs

The Republic of China Navy (Taiwanese Navy) has ordered 440  highly advance AN/SSQ-53F sonobuoys from the United States  to improve its anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities.

Taiwanese Navy will recieve 440 AN/SSQ-53F directional frequency and ranging (DIFAR) sonobuoy in a deal worth US$335,000.

Taiwan's F-16 Mid Life Update Package Includes AESA Radar

Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the United States has notified the US Congress about the possible Foreign Military Sale to the Taiwan for upgradation of F-16A/B aircraft at an estimated cost of $5.3 billion.

Taiwan has requested the US government to provide the following equipment for the Mid Life Update of 145 F-16A/B block 20 of the Republic of China Air Force.

US to Decide on Sale of 66 F-16 C/D Block 52+ to Taiwan

United States’ Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has confirmed that US will decide about the sale of new F-16 C/D Block 52+ fighter aircrafts to Taiwan by Oct. 1 this year. Taiwan has been making repeated requests for the purchase of new F-16 fighter jets to increase its defenses against the growing PLAAF.

United State has declined Taiwan's letter of request (LOR) for 66 F-16C/D block 52+ fighter aircrafts at cost of over $8 billion many times in the past few years because of the fear of strong Chinese reaction to such sale.

Taiwan's Hsiung Feng (Brave Wind) III supersonic anti-ship missile missed its target in a training exercise due to problems in its computer.

Hsiung Feng III supersonic anti-ship missile is capable of cruising at a top speed of Mach 2.0 (twice the speed of sound) and has a range of around 130 kilometers when flying very close to the sea to avoid early detection.

United States has once again rejected the Taiwan's request to sell additional F-16s. United States State Department has blocked the latest petition by the Taiwan to submit a letter of request (LoR) for 66 F-16C/D Block 50/52+  fighter aircrafts.

United States had earlier blocked three such attempts by the Taiwan for the purchase of 66 F-16C/D Block 50/52+ and upgrade of the 146 F-16A/B Block 20 fighters aircraft.
