Two Iranian Su-25 Frogfoot fighter attack aircafts fired at the US Predator unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the waters of the Persian Gulf while it was on a clissified surveillance mission near the Iranian coast. The drone was not hit by the plane's gunfire and was able to return to its undisclosed base in the region. This incident occured last Thursday at approximately 4:50 a.m. Eastern Time.
US officals have maintained that Perdator drone never entered Iranian airspace and incident occurred in international airspace. Pentagon spokesman, George Little has said, " The incident occurred 16 nautical miles off the Iranian coastline." Internationally 12 nautical milesis considered as the territorial limit of water. This incident occured in the northern part of the Persian Gulf east of Kuwait.
United States has siad that it has informed the Iranian officals that US will continue to conduct surveillance flights over international waters over the Arabian Gulf.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed that they were able to take control of the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone and it landed safely in Iran in last December. US officals have maintained that its RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone has lost control and crash landed in Iran
