Reporting from Washington — The Obama administration said it was "actively" considering sanctioning Iran's central bank in retaliation for an alleged Iranian assassination plot, a move that could severely damage Iran's economy and potentially provoke a strong response from Tehran.
David Cohen, the Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, told the Senate Banking Committee that officials were "looking very actively" at such a step and might carry it out if other nations could be persuaded to follow suit.

My Comment: If the US Treasury Department pursues these sanctions against Iran's Central Bank (which I still doubt) .... this will all but guarantee a major economic hit against Iran and its dysfunctional economy. The Iranians know this, and are voicing their concerns (and threats) on what would happen if the U.S. proceeds.
What is my take .... we are now entering a very dangerous area in which tensions are now increasing. One need only to look back at history, and see what happens when such sanctions are imposed. For example, the U.S. imposed such sanctions on Japan before Pearl Harbor, with the result that the Japanese perceived this as an act of war .... an act of war that resulted with the Japanese justifying their attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
