Chinese researchers have revealed a 'ghost cape' that can make one object appear to look like another.

The team from Southeast University in Nanjing, China say their technique is far simpler that other invisibility devices, because instead of making an object disappear entirely, it makes it look like something else.

The technique scatters incoming light to create two 'ghost' images either side of the cloaked object.

My Comment: Until I see Chinese fighter jets looking like passenger jets .... I am deeply skeptical of this report.

By now, everyone with an internet connection has seen pictures of the stealthy helicopter used in the raid to take out Osama bin Laden. So, if the Pakistani government provided Chinese engineers with a closer look at the “Airwolf,” as the copter was nicknamed in some military circles, it’s not necessarily a security disaster. The potential problems would only start if the Chinese took samples from the modified Black Hawk.

Pakistan Likely Allowed China Access to Secret U.S. Helicopter: Reports -- ABC News

The Pakistani intelligence service probably allowed the Chinese military to examine and even take home parts of the top secret stealth helicopter used in the U.S. Navy SEAL raid to take down Osama bin Laden, according to a pair of recently published news reports.



Shortly after the successful raid in early May, photographs emerged online of what appeared to be the remains of a never-before-seen stealth-modified version of a Blackhawk helicopter that, according to the White House, crash-landed during the operation after clipping one of the compound's walls. The SEALs the chopper was carrying attempted to destroy it after the crash -- first reportedly with hammers to destroy the helicopter's sensitive, cutting edge electronics systems -- and then with explosives, but a large portion of the tail section survived the blast.

Pakistan allowed Chinese military engineers to photograph and take samples from the top-secret stealth helicopter that US special forces left behind when they killed Osama bin Laden, the Financial Times has learnt.



The action is the latest incident to underscore the increasingly complicated relationship and lack of trust between Islamabad and Washington following the raid.



"The US now has information that Pakistan, particularly the ISI, gave access to the Chinese military to the downed helicopter in Abbottabad," said one person in intelligence circles, referring to the Pakistani spy agency. The Chinese engineers were allowed to survey the wreckage and take photographs of it, as well as take samples of the special "stealth" skin that allowed the American team to enter Pakistan undetected by radar, he said.

My Comment: David Axe's assessment is spot on. It is one thing for the Chinese or russians (or anyone else) to have a copy of the plans and what is needed to build a stealth fighter like the F-35. It is however a totally different thing when it comes to sitting down and actually manufacturing the parts, doing the assembly, and testing the final product.

The wreckage of the secret stealth helicopter that was abandoned by U.S. Navy SEALs during the mission to kill Osama bin Laden in Pakistan is back in U.S. government hands, a Pentagon official said today.

The Pakistani government, which has held on to the remains of what experts believed to a highly modified Blackhawk helicopter since the May 2 raid, returned "what's left of the whole thing" including a large tail section to U.S. officials over the weekend, said Col. Dave Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman. The helicopter is being held in an undisclosed location.

The material's internal structure absorbs almost all the electromagnetic radiation in a particular range, New Scientist reports. Ordinary black objects, by contrast, always reflect a bit of light. The material could be applied to all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, meaning it could be used to make materials invisible to radar.
