Pakistan Successfully Test-Fires Nuclear Capable Missile



Pakistan Says It Test-Fires Nuclear-Capable Missile -- New York Times

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan successfully tested an improved intermediate-range ballistic missile early on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Pakistani military.

The test launch came six days after India, the country’s regional archrival, test-fired an Agni 5, a long-range ballistic missile that is also capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Pakistani military and defense analysts said that their missile test was not in response to India’s, which was seen as focused on China. The Agni 5 tested last week was capable of reaching Beijing and Shanghai.

Pakistan Army Accused Of Killings -- Al Jazeera

Video appears to show Pakistani troops lining up civilians and shooting them dead, raising concerns over army's conduct.

An amateur video posted on a social networking site appears to show Pakistani troops unlawfully killing six young men, raising fresh concerns over the conduct of US-backed Pakistani forces in their battle against Taliban-allied groups.

The blurry video, which runs for more than 5 minutes, shows men in Pakistani military uniforms lining up blindfolded young men with their hands tied behind their backs before gunning them down.

The Pakistani military has said the video is fake.

My Comment: This video does not surprise me. Pakistan has a long history of being very brutal to those who oppose the central authorities. My only surprise is that there are not more videos of this type.

Pakistan Significantly Boosts Its Defense Spending

Pakistan To Increase Defence Spending -- BBC

Pakistan has announced it is to increase defence spending by 17% in the coming year, with analysts saying much of it will be used to combat militants.

In his budget speech to parliament, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said security forces should know they had the support of MPs.

Defence spending will rise to more than $5bn a year from next month.

Pakistan Navy Test Fires Missiles In Arabian Sea Manoeuvres (Video)



Pakistan Navy Conducts Missile Tests -- CNN

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan's navy said it test-fired missiles in the Arabian Sea on Friday to send a message to "anyone harboring nefarious designs" against the country.

The test of "strike capability" is a show of force to Pakistan's enemies, the navy said in a news release.

It included anti-surface and air-to-surface missiles, as well as missiles fired from a submarine.
