Iran Admits (Maybe?) That The Munitions Factory That Was Bombed In Sudan Was Theirs

Iran Says Allowed To Build Overseas Arms Facilities -- YNet News

Tehran halfheartedly admits to backing weapons factory in Sudan; FM Salehi says 'If Israel was ready to strike Iran it would have done so by now'.

Iran halfheartedly admitted that it had established the Sudanese weapons factory that was destroyed in an air raid last week, defiantly stating that it has the right to build arms facilities overseas.

In a Sunday interview with Qatari newspaper Al-Waten, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi was asked about the the Iranian link to Sudanese military complex that was allegedly bombed by Israel.

"Let us assume Iran founded a weapons factory in Sudan; is it forbidden? It is international trades between our countries, governments purchase arms for other countries – it's natural," he said.

My Comment: A strange comment to make .... especially from someone like Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi. But while there is speculation that Sudan did permit Iran to run a munitions factory in their country, there is no question that within the Sudanese government itself, there is strong disagreement on maintaining military relations with Iran.

Iranian Warships Dock At Sudan Port

Iran Naval Task Force 'Docks In Sudan' -- BBC

Official spokesperson of Iran’s Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast (http://www.iranreview.org)

Iran Rejects Allegations Of Sending Weapons To Sudan -- Sudan Tribune

March 23, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – Iran has denied what it described as “false” reports by the West on Tehran’s provision of military support to Sudan.

Ramin Mehmanparast, the official spokesperson of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, on Friday said that Western media reports accusing his country of sending weapons to Sudan were “false and suspicious.”

He pointed out that his country’s foreign policy has always aimed at prevention of war and accused Western powers of seeking to deflect attention from their failures in implementing sanctions on Iran.

My Comment: Someone is supplying weapons to the Sudanese government. And while China has close relations with Sudan (because of oil), there is no proof that they are the ones who are supplying weapon systems to Khartoum. So who is the supplier?

Hmmmm .... the list is very short .... and yes .... Iran is on the top of that list.
