Israel 'Supplied Arms To Argentina During Falklands War' -- The Telegraph

Israel secretly supplied arms and equipment to Argentina during the Falklands War due to Prime Minister Menachem Begin's personal hatred of the British, a new book discloses.

Air to air missiles, missile radar alert systems, fuel tanks for fighter bombers and gas masks were dispatched from Israel apparently destined for Peru but were then transported on to Argentina, it claims.

As the British Task Force sent to reclaim the islands after the 1982 Argentine invasion of the Falklands began to get the upper hand, Argentina's ruling military junta was left with few choices from which to source replacements for equipment lost in war.

David Cameron used a visit to Turkey to make his strongest intervention yet in the intractable Middle East conflict today when he likened the experience of Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip to that of a "prison camp".

Although he has made similar remarks before, his decision to repeat them on a world stage in Turkey, whose relations with Israel have deteriorated sharply since it mounted a deadly assault on the Gaza flotilla, gave them much greater diplomatic significance.

Britain is refusing to allow a new Mossad representative to take up his post in London because of the Israeli spy agency’s alleged use of fake British passports in the assassination of a Palestinian militant.

Israel has resisted a demand by Britain that it promise in writing not to use British passports in similar clandestine operations in the future, the Hebrew daily Yedioth Ahronoth said. Israel has so far refused the condition, it said, because to do so could be seen as an admission of culpability in the death of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a senior Hamas operative murdered in his Dubai hotel room in January.

David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, has condemned Israel over the ‘intolerable’ counterfeiting of British passports which were used by a hit squad suspected of the assassination of a Hamas commander.

An investigation by the Serious and Organised Crime Squad (SOCA) has concluded that there are “compelling reasons” to believe that Israel was responsible for the “misuse” of a dozen British passports.

A senior diplomat at the Israeli Embassy in London – widely believed to be a member of Mossad, the feared Israeli secret service agency – is expelled from the United Kingdom as a result.
