Hosni Mubarak Sons 'Have £215 Million In Swiss Banks' -- The Telegraph

The two sons of ousted President Hosni Mubarak have an estimated $340 million (£215m) in Swiss bank accounts, a senior Egyptian Justice Ministry official said on Monday.

Assem al-Gohary said Swiss authorities are investigating whether one of the sons, Alaa, 49, was involved in money laundering along with other ex-regime figures.

Mr Mubarak and his sons have been charged with corruption and all three are under arrest in Egypt. Mr Mubarak is also charged with complicity in the killing of about 850 protesters during the Jan 25 to Feb 11 Egyptian uprising.

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's Hosni Mubarak was wheeled into a courtroom cage in a hospital bed on Wednesday to face trial for killing protesters -- an image that thrilled those who overthrew him and must have chilled other Arab autocrats facing popular uprisings.

If convicted, Mubarak could face the death penalty.

The 83-year-old former president, looking frail and gaunt, denied the charges, which could carry the death penalty.

Mubarak is the first Arab leader to stand trial in person since popular uprisings swept the Middle East this year.

Mubarak To Face Public Trial In Cairo Next Week -- McClatchy News

CAIRO — Toppled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his two sons and several others charged with plotting to kill hundreds of anti-government demonstrators will face a very public trial in Cairo beginning next Wednesday, a senior Egyptian official said Thursday.

The announcement — which came after the Egyptian health minister reported that Mubarak's health was stable enough for him to be transported to Cairo — allayed fears among many Egyptians that the 83-year-old former president would escape a trial or it would be postponed, which probably would have fueled massive protests.

FORMER Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak's health deteriorated last night hours after he and his two sons were placed under 15-day detention in an inquiry into violence against protesters.

The official MENA news agency reported that the 82-year-old in police custody in a Red Sea resort hospital was in an "unstable" condition after suffering a heart attack while being questioned by prosecutors on Tuesday.

His two sons, Gamal and Alaa, were transferred late yesterday from Sharm el-Sheikh courthouse to a Cairo prison.
