Trying To Sneak Into Area 51

Do not enter: The moment the team sneak into Area 51 - and security teams immediately step in to arrest them

Moment BBC Film Crew Was Held At Gunpoint After Trying To Sneak Into Nevada's Area 51 Military Base With UFO Conspiracy Theorists -- Daily Mail

* Agents held the 12-man team at gunpoint for three hours while checking their credentials
* Area 51 rumoured to hold the crashed space-ship as well as the bodies of aliens which were removed - still alive - from the wreckage
* 'Apache helicopters were called in and Washington phoned London after trespass'
* Team say they were followed in the days following attempt
* Same BBC team caused outrage by suggesting London bombings were a government conspiracy

This is the moment a BBC film crew were held by security teams at the notoriously secretive Area 51 - where conspiracy theorists believe the American government is hiding a flying saucer.

Irish comedian Andrew Maxwell and UFO expert Darren Perks sneaked past the border at the site - and were forced to lie on the ground at gunpoint for three hours while the FBI checked their credentials.

It is the same 'documentary' team that caused outrage in Britain last week when they suggested that the 7/7 London bombings were part of a government conspiracy to boost support for the Iraq war.

The Secret History Of Area 51

Recent declassified documents have helped to shed light on the facts behind the myths of Area 51

The (Very) Secret History Of Area 51 -- The Independent

Just how covert is the infamous US air base? New files show that even Presidents don't always 'need to know' its activities.

No one on the ground or in Pakistan's air defence spotted Area 51's latest toy as it kept watch on Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on the night of the US raid that killed the Taliban leader.

Rather than one of the UFOs that the wilder fringes of the internet believe the military has stashed away at America's top-secret military site in Nevada, this "toy" was actually the latest Star Wars-type drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), developed at the base whose existence Uncle Sam only barely admits.

My Comment: The most interesting paragraph from this report is the following ....

.... Yet for Jacobsen one of the strangest things about Area 51 is that even in the age of WikiLeaks and Google Earth, she has "not seen anything ever leak out of Area 51", almost as if "the base is in a permanent state of lockdown".

That must be some heavy security and screening process at Area 51 .... or a realization among those who work there that what they do is (really) vital to national security, and that they must keep their mouths permanently shut.

Exclusive Area 51 Pictures

Suspended upside down, a titanium A-12 spy-plane prototype is prepped for radar testing at Area 51 in the late 1950s. After a rash of declassifications, details of Cold War workings at the Nevada base, which to this day does not officially exist, are coming to light—including never before released images of an A-12 crash and its cover-up.

Exclusive Area 51 Pictures: Secret Plane Crash Revealed -- National Geographic

Area 51 was created so that U.S. Cold Warriors with the highest security clearances could pursue cutting-edge aeronautical projects away from prying eyes. During the 1950s and '60s Area 51’s top-secret OXCART program developed the A-12 as the successor to the U-2 spy plane.

The Truth Is Out There (In Area 51)

Nevada’s mountains provide a wall around one of the world’s most secret places.

From Air & Space Magazine:

A veteran reporter describes his search for the aircraft of Area 51.

"And you'll see a very long runway right...there." Our aircraft commander jabbed a finger at a small, cross-hatched circle on the U.S. Air Force navigation chart. "But, even if we lose all four engines," he said, "we will not land on it.”

“Why not, sir?” I asked.

“We’d be there a long time and have to answer a lot of questions,” the commander replied, then moved on to the next day’s mission preview. A four-stripe sergeant leaned toward me. “That’s Groom Lake,” he said under his breath. “That’s where the really secret [stuff] happens.”

Former Area 51 workers talk planes

Pilot Ray Haupt talks Thursday about flying spy planes at Area 51, including the SR-71 Blackbird that appears behind him in a display at the Atomic Testing Museum. Photos by Craig L. Moran.

From Review Journal:

Cold War missions in spotlight, not UFOs

Mystique about alien spaceships and little green men at Area 51 took a back seat Thursday to the real men who worked there for the CIA and the spy planes they flew during the Cold War.

In fact, a question about a link between the secret installation 90 miles north of Las Vegas and speculation about flying saucer debris and dead aliens from a 1947 crash site near Roswell, N.M., was glossed over as fiction during a panel discussion at the Atomic Testing Museum.

The Road To Area 51

After decades of denying the facility's existence, five former insiders speak out.

From The L.A. Times:

Area 51. It's the most famous military institution in the world that doesn't officially exist. If it did, it would be found about 100 miles outside Las Vegas in Nevada's high desert, tucked between an Air Force base and an abandoned nuclear testing ground. Then again, maybe not— the U.S. government refuses to say. You can't drive anywhere close to it, and until recently, the airspace overhead was restricted—all the way to outer space. Any mention of Area 51 gets redacted from official documents, even those that have been declassified for decades.

It has become the holy grail for conspiracy theorists, with UFOlogists positing that the Pentagon reverse engineers flying saucers and keeps extraterrestrial beings stored in freezers. Urban legend has it that Area 51 is connected by underground tunnels and trains to other secret facilities around the country. In 2001, Katie Couric told Today Show audiences that 7 percent of Americans doubt the moon landing happened—that it was staged in the Nevada desert. Millions of X-Files fans believe the truth may be "out there," but more likely it's concealed inside Area 51's Strangelove-esque hangars—buildings that, though confirmed by Google Earth, the government refuses to acknowledge.
