US Ambassador Killed In Libya: Investigators Probe Whether Benghazi Assault Was Planned -- The Telegraph

Two US destroyers were steaming towards Libya on Thursday as marines began their hunt for the killers of the American ambassador and three other diplomats, and investigators probed whether the attack may have been a planned strike.

President Barack Obama pledged that “justice will be done” after Chris Stevens, 52, was killed in the attack on the US consulate in the eastern coastal city of Benghazi on Tuesday night. A second diplomat, Sean Smith, and two other US officials were killed in the raid, which came on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

As well as warships, Mr Obama sent 50 marines to secure the embassy in Tripoli and help in evacuating diplomats and other Americans from the country. But pressure was also rising for firm action against groups thought to be involved in the assault on the consulate.
