Russia Is Playing Power Games, So We Must Learn To Power Ourselves -- A Commentary

With Vladimir Putin using his country's gas reserves as a political weapon, Britain must develop a secure energy policy, writes Brian Wilson.

The airwaves have been busy over the past week with politicians and experts declaring that we must not become over-dependent on Russian gas for our energy security. Less than five years ago, to my certain knowledge, some of them were saying the exact opposite.

At that time, the nodding donkeys of Whitehall were preoccupied with ridding Britain of nuclear power. That seemed to me perverse, not least because it is our one serious source of carbon-free electricity at a time when carbon reduction is supposedly one of our national and global priorities.
